Curricular Practical Training is required authorization for any international student seeking to participate in any type of off-campus experiental learning opportunity.
If you are an F-1 student, then Optional Practical Training allows you to work off-campus in your field of study for 12 months.
If the CIP code on your I-20 is STEM eligible, you can apply for a 24-month OPT extension.
Work authorization for J-1 students, Academic Training, allows you to gain experience in your field of study, generally after your completion of studies.
