Please note that the ISSS advising team assists with F-1 and J-1 related immigration inquiries. We can help provide contact information to the right resource, and can help with personal issues, but our main area of expertise is limited to immigration. If you have academic-related questions, billing concerns, or tax-related requests, please reach out to the appropriate office. Read the additional information and forms linked here before scheduling with an advisor.

I-20 & DS-2019 Extension
You may apply for a program extension in the final term before your I-20 or DS-2019 expires.
Medical Reduced Courseload
If you have an illness or medical condition that prevents you from taking a full course load, we may authorize a reduced course load.
Travel Signature
If you plan to travel outside of the United States and reenter, you need a travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019. Your I-20 or DS-2019 should have a signature within 12 months of the date you plan to reenter. If you are on OPT, the travel signature date should be within 6 months of the date when you reenter.
Academic Training & AT Extensions
Work authorization for J-1 students is called Academic Training.
Transfer Out
If you choose to attend another school (whether you graduate or not), this is considered a “transfer of schools” and International Student Services must release your SEVIS record to that school.
Social Security Numbers & Driver's License
Applying for a Social Security Card and a Driver's License.
