The program is a four-week shadowing experience for rising senior pre-med students who would be competitive academically in the medical school application process. Participants are selected from several state colleges and universities. Students who do not have an acceptance to medical school, have had trouble finding clinical shadowing experience, and plan to apply to medical school soon are nominated and submitted by their pre-med advisors for participation in the program. Finding Your Future provides meaningful “medical experience” which will help support their AMCAS application.
Paramount to the program is the ability to participate in all the dates for training and shadowing. Also of great importance, is the ability to clearly understand and adhere to the rules and regulations required to "shadow" on the USC/Prisma Health Campus.
Monday through Thursday, students rotate on a weekly basis among the following clinical areas:
- Family and Preventive Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Pediatrics
- Psychiatry
- Surgery
- Emergency Medicine
- Geriatrics
- Neurology
- Neurosurgery
- Ophthalmology
- Orthopedics/Sports Medicine

On Fridays, students are exposed to a different aspect of the School of Medicine. Friday topics and activities include: Medical School Mock Interviewing, Medical Student Panel, Ultrasound and Anatomy Lab, and the Prisma Health Simulation Center.
Each participant must complete: HIPAA security training; background check; have current immunizations; and complete other documentation required by Prisma Health prior to beginning the program. Students selected for the program must be able to commit to the entire four weeks without exception. There is no cost to the student for participation and limited housing is available. College credit is not given; however, a stipend is provided for program completion.
Interested participants must contact their pre-med advisors to be nominated and to obtain more information.
