Experience

Bill Frye serves as an Admissions Counselor at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, where he is dedicated to helping prospective students navigate the college admissions process while promoting access to affordable, high-quality higher education. Combining his background in communications with a passion for student success, Bill works to build meaningful relationships with students, families, school counselors, and community partners throughout South Carolina.

In his role, Bill works closely with USC Salkehatchie's Admissions Team to assist prospective students throughout the admissions process, ensuring they have the guidance and resources needed to successfully apply and gain admission to the university. He helps students navigate application requirements, transcript submission, residency documentation, and other admissions materials while answering questions and providing personalized support every step of the way. Through high school visits, campus tours, community outreach, recruitment events, and one-on-one communication, Bill introduces prospective students to the academic opportunities and affordable pathways available at USC Salkehatchie. His student-centered approach focuses on making the admissions process accessible, welcoming, and straightforward, helping students take the first step toward achieving their educational goals.

Bill also develops communication strategies that keep prospective students engaged throughout the enrollment process. He creates personalized email campaigns, text message outreach, and digital communications that provide timely information about admissions, orientation, financial aid, and campus events. His background in journalism and media production allows him to contribute to marketing initiatives and storytelling efforts that showcase the student experience and strengthen the university's presence throughout the region.

Before joining USC Salkehatchie, Bill worked as a Broadcast Journalist with the Carolina News & Reporter in Columbia, South Carolina. There, he reported and anchored news stories, edited broadcast packages using Adobe Premiere Pro, produced newsroom rundowns in ENPS, and created social media content using Canva. These experiences strengthened his communication, organization, and public engagement skills, which continue to serve him in higher education recruitment.

Bill earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina Columbia, where he also completed a cognate in Computer Science and Mathematics. He previously earned both an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science with High Honors from USC Salkehatchie. During his undergraduate studies, Bill broadened his academic and cultural perspective through a study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain, and Aix-en-Provence, France. While abroad, he completed journalism coursework that explored international media practices, storytelling, and cross-cultural communication, providing him with firsthand experience in global perspectives on journalism.

Personal

Bill Frye is a Barnwell, South Carolina, native and a proud alumnus of the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie and the University of South Carolina Columbia. Outside of his work in higher education, he enjoys playing fingerstyle guitar and performing with his brother as part of an acoustic duo band. He has a passion for traveling, exploring new cultures, and experiencing live music. A lifelong news enthusiast, Bill also maintains a deep appreciation for journalism and storytelling, interests that continue to shape his approach to communication and community engagement.
