The Geek Certificate is a series of short, thought-provoking courses that explore how systems—digital, political, and cultural—shape the way we live, work, and make decisions. Using science fiction, pop culture, and real-world examples, each course helps you make sense of ideas that often feel abstract or invisible: algorithms, power, networks, automation, and control.
Students will read and discuss Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Mansfield Park, and they will study related materials from the culture of Austen’s time. Each of six, hour-long meetings will be divided between discussion of the novels and close study of original editions and related materials, which will include botanical and architectural illustrations, abolitionist texts, and aesthetic theory.
Whether you’re brand-new or looking to strengthen your beginner skills, this four-week course offers a clear, engaging introduction to American Mah Jongg using National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules. You’ll build the essential knowledge and confidence needed to enjoy this rewarding and social game.
Mary Martha Greene, author of “The Cheese Biscuit Queen Tells All”, will carry you through a journey to preserve your precious family recipes and stories to hand down for generations to come – and just maybe publish in a cookbook. This session will include how to capture family stories – the happy, the sad, the good, and the bad – and practical tips for writing and quantifying family recipes.
