Mass Communications Research

This course is designed to demystify the world of communication research, guiding you through the essentials of conducting and understanding research within the mass communication field. Whether you’re new to research or looking to sharpen your skills, this course will provide you with the tools you need to critically engage with and apply research methods to real-world problems.

Throughout this course, you'll explore the entire research process—from identifying compelling research questions to interpreting data and drawing meaningful conclusions. We’ll dive into various research methodologies, including surveys, experiments, and content analysis, all while emphasizing the practical applications of these methods in the media landscape. The course will also address the ethical considerations inherent in communication research, ensuring that you’re not only proficient but also responsible in your scholarly endeavors.

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recall and describe the fundamental processes of mass communication research, including the selection of research topics, development of measurements, and sampling techniques.
  2. Critically assess and critique empirical studies in the field of communication, identifying both strengths and weaknesses in research design, methodology, and conclusions.
