Personnel Organization and Supervision

Human assets (employees and managers) are one of the most important assets in business. This is especially important given increased global competition, changing demographics, shifting legal regulations, changing employee motivations, performance compensation, and renewed attention to people to achieving organizational goals.

This course describes current knowledge about human behavior and presents strategic practices that illustrate how human resource management can achieve both efficiency and equity in the employment relationship. The course will explore the role of human resources and the key elements of the environment within which employees and management must function.  

Throughout the course, students will learn the fundamental components and discuss the critical issues of employment law, the hiring process, employee training and development, performance management, compensation, employee and labor relations, and international HRM.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify the recruitment, selection, utilization, and development of human resources.
  2. Analyze employment laws and how they relate to the employee/employer relationship.
  3. Identify the methods organizations use for employee development and effective training program.
  4. Distinguish the role of supervisors in management and personnel administration.
  5. Explain the importance and necessity of a diverse and inclusive workplace.
